Well, lately, I have a new fav tv likeactivity. It happens on my laptop but it strongly reminds me of cable television.
Got me thinking about the ones of us, women, who really have the courage and daring to act and think differently and out loud.
We are raised with live examples of women who are obedient, common, depressed, sad or eternally unhappy with their job, friends or relationships.
Being straight forward or different never looked good. You’re not one of the gang if you don’t constantly complain, if you don’t bitch about everyone else non stop (I bitch about all of you too, relax, I may be many things but I’m not a hypocrite. I’m not gossiping 24/7 tough, you’re not that juicy) and if your best friends are guys, that’s it, you are definitely fucked! You’ll forever wear the scarlet letter – you’ll be an outsider. And God is my witness I’m happy to be one!
I never was a typical girl and now, everybody tells me that I’m a special woman, ok , stop shouting, I said special, not marvelous, extraordinary or other positive attributes. Sure, many of them say this “special” characteristic in a positive tone but some of you also think that “special” means exotic, neurotic, despotic. I am well aware of that and I take full responsibility for not caring about it!
The only thing that it’s important to me is acting accordingly to what I think. And because I’m special, I like to surround myself with other special people, people that will help me grow and develop. People who can bring added value to my life and can inspire me to also create value.
Take for example my friend Diana (which you will soon read on High Street Cardigans).
She’s extremely cynical, pragmatic and sharp. For many of the people around me she passes like the perfect example of arrogance and self-sufficiency. She is self-sufficient in many cases indeed, that is not a negative attribute if one knows to keep a balance between it and letting other people be near you.
I remember when I met her. I was living right across the American Embassy and no one was allowed to park right in front of my building. Well, she did! She drove her car right in front of the building and parked it on the sidewalk. It was a matter of seconds until two guards were right in front of us. And on top of it, the Ambassador was passing through right in that moment.
I’m not gonna bore you with all the side details, the thing that remained in our social group as a worth mentioning adventure was when she looked right in the Ambassador’s eyes and said:
“You know Mister, I’m going to move the car if you tell me where it is said – I use my city as I please! -”
It’s a quote from the Ecclesiastes.
She wasn’t rude, she was funny and smart and apologized for her daring in parking the car there but as we all agreed (the Ambassador, the guards, I and all our friends after) it was a powerful and interesting action.
I would have loved to see a spot made after this.
Or after the episode when Mittens, my best friend, entered my office and told all the boys that she needs help with her groceries and who helps her will get a chance to meet her…husband. She made them laugh so bad that they started adoring her on the spot.
And the time Andreea won a pitch dressed in her pajamas. Ahhh, that would make a good subject for another AVON LIKES YOU spot.
Being confident, powerful, daring and interesting are characteristics we all have in us, we just have to find the courage to let them surface.
I told you this many times before, stop thinking about what other people or better yet, other women might say about your actions. Live for yourself and stay true to the values and beliefs you and the people you respect and care for, believe in.
.
